Currently the ALP Federal
Member for Fremantle, Dr Lawrence began her political career in State politics.
She was Premier and Treasurer of Western Australia from 1990 to 1993 and
Leader of the State Parliamentary Labor Party, Shadow Treasurer and Shadow
Minister for Employment, Federal Affairs from 1993 to 1994. Since 1994 she
has been Federal Minister for Human Services and Health and the Minister
assisting the PM for the Status of Women. Dr Lawrence was formerly a resident psychologist with the WA Department of Health and a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Western Australia.
