Hon. Robert (Bob) James Lee Hawke, AC (b.1929)



Mr Hawke, a former Rhodes Scholar, was born and educated in Western Australia. He has been active within the trade union movement since 1958 and in 1970 was made President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), a position he retained until 1980. He was President of the ALP from 1973-78 before entering parliament in 1980.

Mr Hawke served as Prime Minister of Australia from 1983 to 1991. He is now a business consultant and has served as the Visiting Professor at the University of Sydney and as the Adjunct Professor at the Australian National University since 1992. Mr Hawke is also an active sportsman and his interests include golf, racing and cricket.
