Hon. James (Jim) Ford Cairns, PhD
(b. 1914)
Dr Cairns was a senior lecturer in economic
history at the University of Melbourne before standing for Parliament. He
was a Member of the House of Representatives from 1955 to 1977 and served
as Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Treasurer from 1974 to 1975.
Dr Cairns has published a number of works, including the following titles:
Living with Asia (1965), Tariffs on Planning (1971), Growth
to Freedom (1979), The Untried Road (1990) and Towards a New
Society (1994). He lists his favourite recreation as sleeping.
