Ann Pederson

 

Ann Pederson is currently a Visiting Fellow in Recordkeeping Studies in the School of Information Systems, Technology & Management(SISTM) at the University of New South Wales.

Born and educated in the USA, Ann holds a BA[hons.] from Ohio Wesleyan University and a research MA in history from Georgia State University. A qualified secondary teacher, Ann's first posting was to Birrong Girls High School in Sydney's west, where she taught English and history and earned a Teaching Certificate from the NSW Department of Education. Ann returned to the US in 1968, undertook her master degree and spent ten years at the Georgia Department of Archives and History in a number of different capacities, culminating in the position of Director of the Archives Division, with responsibility for all archival functions. She emigrated to Australia in 1981 to accept an appointment as Lecturer, then Senior Lecturer, in Archives/Records Management at the University of NSW.

Her professional achievements over the past 20 years include: co-authorship(with Gail Farr) of Archives and Manuscripts: Public Programs(1982), prime responsibility for the first edition of Keeping Archives(1987) and a number of innovative professional and continuing education activities. During the 1990's, she has collaborated with the National Archives of Australia and Edith Cowan University in devising Internet-based content and distance education courses for recordkeeping professionals, most recently the multi-media CD-ROM, Documenting Society, (2000). She represents the University of NSW nationally on the Australian Recordkeeping Educators Forum, a body she co-founded in 1995, and internationally as a member of the 1996-2004 Steering Committee of the highly influential Section on Archival Education and Training of the International Council on Archives(ICA/SAE). Ann is a Fellow of the Society of American Archivists(SAA) and was elected a Laureate of the Australian Society of Archivists(ASA) in 1996.
