Mission

To recognise wartime prime minister and international statesman John Curtin (1885-1945) by facilitating research and providing educational and public outreach programs which engage the Curtin and wider community.

Background & Programs

The JCPML is Australia's first prime ministerial library and forms part of the Library at Curtin University of Technology, in Perth, Western Australia. It is a purpose-built archival and educational facility providing secure and environmentally stable storage for the preservation of unique material and appropriately designed facilities for researchers. Under Foundation Director, Dr Vicki Williamson, and Foundation Archivist, Kandy-Jane Henderson, the Library opened to the public on 20 February 1998.

John Curtin's life and times provide a springboard for a range of themes supported by the JCPML research collection. The JCPML appoints a Visiting Scholar each year under the Visiting Scholars Program.

The JCPML has an active public program incorporating an Anniversary Event on 5 July each year, an education program for schools, public lectures and other events and exhibitions including a major exhibition on display in the Gallery/JCPML at Curtin.

The Foundation Patron of the JCPML is Hon Edward Gough Whitlam, former Prime Minister of Australia and Professor David Black holds the honorary position of JCPML Historical Consultant.
